It started with one free cube
7-CUBE™ began in January 2026, at 5:30 in the morning, in a coffee line. My brother Steve and I stopped at 7 Brew on our way to work out. They were handing out a squishy promotional cube: a logo on one face, a slogan on another, and four blank sides.
It was a cool cube, so we got a second one. We started tossing them around, making up rules as we went, and as the game evolved it became clear it needed seven.
That's the whole origin story, and it's why the game is called 7-CUBE™. No boardroom, no focus group. Two brothers, a coffee run, and one free cube that turned out to be the start of something.
From giveaway dice to a real game
Those four blank sides became the heart of the game. Every 7-CUBE™ cube has three kinds of faces:
- The Crown. The most powerful face, and the symbol of 7-CUBE™ itself.
- The Diamond. Second in power, and worth more than it looks.
- The Void. Four of the six sides. It holds no power, and it can end your game in a single roll.
Over the next ten months, the scribbled rules turned into a real system. Players build a Bank and earn more cubes for their next throw. Where a cube lands on the table matters, with double-points Crown Zones at each end. A game can last hours, or be over in an instant.
The physical design grew alongside it: glowing silicone cubes you can actually squeeze, a printed playing mat, Bank and Roll coins, a Playbook, and a travel case that carries all of it. The rules themselves we keep secret. You learn them at the table.
Fifty players, one honest verdict
Before spending a dollar on manufacturing, we put the game in front of 50 people and asked them straight. Here's exactly what they said:
| Response | Players |
|---|---|
| Loved playing it | 45 of 50 |
| Would buy one right now | 31 of 50 |
| Would consider ordering in advance | 3 of 50 |
| Wouldn't buy one | 16 of 50 |
Not everyone was sold, and we're not going to pretend otherwise. But 31 people saying "I'd buy this today" for a game made of coffee-shop dice told us we had something worth building properly.
Why we built 7-CUBE™ Online, and what it isn't
Most people can't sit at our table, so we built a free digital taste of the game you can play on your phone in two minutes: 7-CUBE™ Online.
It started as a simple screen that showed one roll: Crown, Diamond or Void. Then it grew. Seven glowing cubes that tumble in slow motion. Throws that teeter on the edge of a Crown Zone and either hold on or fall off. A Bank to fill, rescue rolls when the Void takes everything, a Hall of Fame, and the rare Genesis Roll that stamps your own Founder's Mark.
Here's the honest part. 7-CUBE™ Online is a teaser, not the game. It uses a simplified version of our rules, and it can't give you the feel of a silicone cube leaving your hand or a table full of friends yelling at a cube rocking on the edge. It exists to give you a feel for the game, and if you like it, to make you want the real thing.
Where we really are today
We're a brand-new company, and we'd rather you hear the real status from us than guess:
- Done: the game, the rules, the symbols, the mat design, the travel case design, the website and 7-CUBE™ Online.
- In progress: we're getting quotes and samples from several manufacturers for the glowing silicone cubes, the case, the coins and the Playbook. Getting the quality right, especially symbols that last on a silicone cube, matters more to us than speed.
- Next: the first production run of 1,000 sets. We're aiming to ship in spring 2027. Factories shut down for weeks around Chinese New Year, so we're planning around that rather than promising a date we can't keep.
And the most important part: pre-orders are what pay for that first production run. We're not a big company with a warehouse of inventory. When you reserve a set, you're helping us build it.
The Signature Series 1000: the first 1,000 sets
The first run is limited to 1,000 numbered sets, and we're calling it the Signature Series 1000. Each set is $199 and includes:
- Seven glowing silicone 7-CUBE™ cubes
- Bank and Roll coins
- The official Playbook, with the rules we don't publish online
- The travel case, included rather than sold as an extra
Why $199 now? Because this is the first run, made in small numbers, and because the people who join now are the ones who get this off the ground. Signature Series buyers get their sets first, before any Kickstarter or store, and every one of the 1,000 sets carries its own number.
What's coming, and how to be part of it
This week we open the Signature Series 1000 to the people who've followed us from the start. Here's how you can help, in order of how much it means to us:
- Play 7-CUBE™ Online and tell us what you think: 7cube.world/play.
- Reserve your 7-CUBE™ from the Signature Series 1000, while the first 1,000 last: 7cube.world.
- Send the game to one friend who'd love it. That single share does more for a new company than any ad we could buy.
We started with one free cube and a question: what if this became something? Ten months later, it has. Thank you for being here at the beginning.
